Old
Business
Pete Marshall, tournament director, updated the club regarding the Cedar
Bluff Reservoir tournament that club will hold this summer. A Kansas Bass club
is also holding at tournament at that time forcing Centennial Bass Club to use
the secondary boat ramp. Pete is looking into getting permission to use the
primary ramp or enrolling in the other tournament. Pete also needs a list of
members who intend on participating in the 2001 Centennial Bass Club Classic
and will be contacting members that qualified.
New members and guests were briefed on the classic
qualifications.
The secretary’s report was read and accepted by the club.
Bill Wilson, Scott Sheldon and Mike Rossi (a friend of
the club) discussed the “Anglers 4 Horsetooth” committee meeting with a
Colorado Division of Wildlife officer. The DOW wants a good forage base started
at Horsetooth. The DOW will wait 3 years to place the forage fish. The DOW
bartered with the Wyoming DOW for shiners to be placed in Horsetooth. Other
forage fish are spottail shiners from Bonny Reservoir and gizzard shad from
Pruitt Reservoir. The forage fish are reproducing and doing well according to
the committee members. Scott Sheldon has asked for an April 1st due date
regarding answers to his questions regarding habitat improvement and structure
placement. Horsetooth Reservoir is expected to be at full pool in two years.
Mike Rossi added that the communication problems the club and committee members
have had with the DOW in the past can be rectified and that if the DOW is to
place cover in the reservoir in be in the form of large diameter trees with
anchors. In conclusion, all of the committee members present at the luncheon
left satisfied with what the DOW is currently working on and what the DOW plans
on doing with the reservoir. Smallmouth Bass were last placed in Horsetooth in
1973.
Jeff Lindgren reported on the Casting For Kids event at
Sportsman’s Warehouse in Loveland. 26 kids participated and it was a great success.
Jeff is planning another event but doesn’t have a date yet. Jeff also thanked
the members that volunteered.
Pete Marshall needs to have all members planning on being
“boaters” insurance forms.
Scott discussed the club tournament format to the new
members and guests.
Don Vaughn reported on the service for Manny Cordova. The
$50.00 went to his memorial fund and the service was beautiful. Don asked that
club members eat some dinners at the Lighthouse Restaurant at Horsetooth.
Parking for the restaurant is free.
NEW
BUSINESS
Doug Johns reported on the state federation meeting. He has forms and
tournament rules for the state team qualifier in Missouri. The cost for the
qualifier is $200 and $5.00 a day for big bass ($15). Any member planning on
attending the qualifier needs to get enrollment form and is expected to have
the $200 or $215 for Don Croghan by March 5th, 2002. Ken Harris at 719-676-2754
is the contact person for the event. Jeremy Montoya, Jeff Colwell, Pete
Marshall, Doug Johns, Wes Hunt and Sean
Solomon are anticipating participation.
Each club is also expected to donate a $35 prize to the event. Doug will
deal with it and have the club reimburse him.
There is a new team tournament organization called the
Colorado Bass Anglers Association.
Frank Villa updated the club on the website. Meeting minutes will be put
on the site. Frank is receiving e-mails from other club members around the
state asking him permission to link to our website. Frank is requesting that
club members send him e-mail information so he can send out urgent mails if
necessary. Officers also need to submit photos of themselves and their e-mail
addresses.
The second annual night team tournament is from 7:00p.m.
to 7:00a.m. Non-B.A.S.S. members are not encourage to attend as they will not
be covered by the insurance policy. Don Vaughn also stated the event will be
even more fun than last year and more organized Payouts have not yet been
established. Fees are $80 per boat and $100 per boat with big bass payout. Don
is also looking for a horse trough to keep the fish in before weigh-in. The
date of the event is 8-17-02. Adaytime tournament was also discussed and maybe
planned in the future.
Pete Marshall asked how feasible it would be for the club
to establish tournament dates for 2003 by October of 2002 in order to get
permits early (his biggest concern regarded Cedar Bluffs in Kansas). The
steering committee needs to meet in August to set lakes and dates for 2003.
Pete also asked for better fish care and handling during tournaments.
Frank Vila was voted as the club photographer.
Sean Solomon has prints of a piece of art he has drawn
and painted available. Contact him for more information.
Pete Marshall handed out lodging sheets for 2002.
Club members and guests were reminded that the March
meeting will have a swap meet at 6:00p.m.
The final raffle of the year will be in April, 2002 - keep your
ticket stubs.
The meeting was adjourned and a raffle followed.

submitted,
