CBC Meeting 2/6/07

 

President Frank Villa called the meeting to order with 22 members and 2 guests at 7pm.

 

The meeting began with a brief presentation from Tom Inman who does reel repairs, and maintenance. He can be contacted through Bennett’s bait and tackle for all of your tackle repair needs.

 

Tournament director’s report- it was reported that, there are 7 rooms reserved for the CBC classic at Ute Lake for the 3rd 4th and 5th. Room rates are $68.00 per person total for the 3 night stay. Brett will send a check for half the amount which is $470.00. Classic participants will need to pay the remaining balance by the April meeting. A motion was made to discuss the classic tournament after the regular meeting it was seconded and passed.

 

Secretary Steve read the minutes for the Jan. meeting a motion was made to accept the minutes seconded and passed.

 

Treasures report- Bret  Vogle reported that there is 1641.86 FMO 898.15 general account a motion was made to accept treasures report seconded and passed.

 

Old Business

 

FMO- Bill Wilson reported that the FMO committee is looking into getting a trailer for the weigh in creating a portable stage where contestants could go up and weigh their fish. He also reported that previous sponsorship is doing well, new sponsors are coming in which would possibly increase pay outs. Air time may possibly be donated to further promote the event. Suggestions would be appreciated in any changes.

 

Cast- Bill Wilson reported that the cast event would be changed to June 2nd which does not conflict with CBC’s tournament schedule.

 

Casting kids report- nothing to report,

 

Jr. Bassmasters- Mike Hubbard reported that the first meeting of the Jr. Bassmasters took place Feb. 5, and was very successful. The kids named their club, which will be called the fighting fish sticks. 7 members were enrolled. Fighting fish six have a March 5th meeting;   volunteers would be needed to do seminars and demonstrations to help the kids get started. Ben Lind volunteered to do a spinner bait demo. Blake of Naked bait co. donated $100 to get the treasury started. A motion was made seconded and passed for CBC to donate $100 as well. Rods and tackle donations would also be appreciated to help ease the pain of expensive gear that some of the kids may not have.

CBF- Frank Villa reported that there is 45,495.75 in the general account most of which came from the boat that Joe Conway donated and was auctioned off. A new conservation director is needed if you are interested please contact the CBF. John Lavery is now the new youth director. Sean Hinton reported that there are only 2 teams from Colorado participating in the 6 man team tournament. So far there have been no volunteers to go divisionals at Lake Powell. Volunteers would get free hotel stay as well as lake tours and maybe even fishing opportunities. The event takes place May 7th -11th if interested contact Frank. The South west club has volunteered to do all the cooking. State Team qualifier – pass ports will be needed to get back from Mexico as well as Mex. Insurance mex.boat pass and mex.fishing license. Sean Hinton stepped down as vice president, and Mike Hubbard stepped up to be the new vice president of the CBF he will also be the tournament director. Ben Lind stepped down from the secretary position. If any one is interested in taking over contact Ben or the federation. Larry Krueger was nominated as treasurer he accepted and is now the federation treasurer. B.A.S.S. allows each state to select a state champion and he or she can pick to fish any open of their choice. The state champion will be selected by using the state team qualifier. Places 1-12 would be eligible to be champion starting with the first and if he could not go they would go to the 2nd  3rd and on down the list. Amistad, Texoma and Livingston would be the three tournaments to choose from. The divisional  pay outs were discussed 1st place is a fully loaded triton boat for the team worth $32,000 2nd place was $12,000, 3rd place is $6,000 4th place is $2000  5th and 6th place is $1000 and 7-11 place is $500. If the state wins the boat 10% will go to the federation and the remaining 90% will go to the 12 finalists including the 13th man if he contributes to the team. Jay Mcmillian’s membership letter for the federation membership contest is up April 15th the wining state with the highest percentage increase will win a fully loaded triton boat to be auctioned off. Joe Conway asked the federation if they would like to invite Wilson Frazier from lowrance to do a seminar on electronics. Wilson would do this at a reduced rate of 3000 plus expenses. They are looking into getting a venue and charging $25-$30 per person to attend.

 

Life Jacket- Craig McMillan reported that the park rangers would possibly wave tickets for life jacket infractions if boaters wanted to get a loaner life jacket instead, at carter and possibly horse tooth.

 

Habitat project- nothing to report on lone tree dock till snow melts.

 

City of Greeley- Sarah Boyd would like suggestions from CBC to put into her proposal to receive grant money for the poudre ponds project, such as cost for lake structure, and general fish habitat. They are already planning budget for angler benches trash cans boat ramps parking lots. Volunteers would be needed. This would be a good opportunity for the Jr. Bassmasters to get involved. Sarah needs a letter of support from CBC.

Carter Lake will be draining down in July. Water levels will be very low this would be a good opportunity for a habitat project. There will a meeting at Carter Lake February 19

at the Bison Center at 5pm.

 

Communications- nothing to report

 

New Business

 

Mike Hubbard suggested a CBAA team tournament trail. This would be a fund raiser, 4 tournaments 80% sponsor payback 1 day each in state. Possibly 2 tournaments at pueblo and 2 at Horse tooth. Further research was recommended and was tabled til next meeting.

Steering Committee tournament rules- 1 change was made rule #27 non-boaters are required to pair up with, travel, and pre-fish with a boater on all weekend tournaments. However boaters are not required to pair up with non-boaters, and can travel and pre fish alone. A motion was made seconded and passed.

Rule #28 a new rule for tie breaking year end standings.

For places 2-10 plaques will be shared for example two 3rd place plaques will be awarded to anglers who tie in year end standings. For angler and rookie of the year a tie will be broken by taking total card points 5 best out of 10 minis and 3 best out of 4 weekend tournaments. A motion was made seconded and passed. For Bassmaster of the year a tie will be broken by who ever caught the biggest bass.

Craig McMillan suggested that we get business cards printed to pass out to perspective members the approximate cost would be $40 for 1000 black and white cards. A motion was made to get color business cards with a limit of $150.00 a design to follow seconded and passed.

Ron Mayer suggested that we have patches made as well, with a CBC logo. A motion was made to get 100 patches made; art work to be determined seconded and passed
